The Cathedral of San Vigilio, namely the Cathedral of Trento, is the main church of the city. It is the Cathedral of the Archdiocese Tridentina [3], and was elevated to the rank of minor Basilica by Pope Pius x on March 18, 1913 [4] and counted among the Italian national monuments with Royal Decree in 1940 [5]. The building, originally cemetery basilica, was founded in the fourth century by San Vigilio to accommodate the bodies of the holy martyrs of Anaunia, and has crossed several construction phases. In particular, the complete reconstruction desired by Prince Bishop Federico Vanga, which began at the beginning of the thirteenth century and continued up to the sixteenth century, from which the current Romanesque-Gothic forms; subsequent interventions are added to this renovation. The remains of the ancient early Christian basilica are still found, musealized, under the current floor plane. Located in the city center, the southern side of Piazza Duomo delimits with its left side and, on the left side of the presbytery, it is annexed to the Palazzo Praetorio. Outside the two rosettes are of particular interest (one on the facade, the other on the north prospect of the transept) and the majestic northern Protyrus, while inside there are several monumental burials, the baroque masterpieces of the main altar and the chapel of the crucifix and several two and fourteenth -century frescoes largely fragmented, among which the cycle with the life of San Giuliano stands out the hospitable.
